The Ems-Jade Canal was built between 1880 and 1888. It owes its origins to Prussia's wish to connect his war harbor Wilhelmshaven, which was located as an exclave in the then Grand Duchy of Oldenburg, by waterway with the Prussian East Frisia, to which Wilhelmshaven belonged politically at the time.

A nice spot for a short break.
Route between Schortens and Dykhausen. Immediately after the drawbridge, turn left to Sande, always along the canal.
