According to legend, the three sons of an esteemed lord, married Berthe, Hodierne and Ige, the 3 daughters of the lord of Rethel, before leaving for the crusade. These, infidels, are transformed by God into three enormous rocks at the precise hour when Jerusalem was taken by assault.

On its way through the French Ardennes, the Meuse makes its way deep into a very enclosed valley. The river flows 300 meters below the top of the hill through this canyon. The steep slopes in this narrow valley are covered with forests. This rough landscape gave rise to many terrible legends.
The Meuse hits three huge rocks. The spectacle is surprising and seems to belong in another country. Not surprisingly, this place was little visited: it is said that the devil used to hold satanic gatherings here…
