The Black Tower of Brasov is one of the four towers built outside the city walls as separate fortifications. It was a watchtower with the purpose of detecting enemy movements outside the walls and repelling them if possible. It was built in the 15th century, with 3 tiers of loopholes on all 4 sides and walls 2m thick at their base.

Today the climb is worth it - you can see the city from the small platform that you can find there after a short climb from Dupa Ziduri Street.

The name of the gleaming white tower comes from its blackened walls during a fire in 1689, when it was struck by lightning.
