The Steinhorst Basin is a very beautiful body of water with numerous waterfowl, two observation towers, the Ems River, which flows through it separately, and a very pleasant circular path for pedestrians and cyclists. Simply beautiful and exemplary. There should be more places like this. Fantastic.

The Steinhorst Basin is located a few kilometers from Delbrück and is the most beautiful water area I've ever seen. It has two observation towers, several water basins for plants and animals, and a wonderful hiking and biking trail, as well as a very beautiful, idyllic Emsteich lake. If it weren't so far away, I would cycle there more often and unwind. The Water, Paths, and Angles Trail also starts there, from the Steinhorst Basin to the Möhnesee. It's well signposted and approximately 130 kilometers long.

This 82-hectare nature reserve is considered the largest man-made biotope in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Steinhorst Basin was originally planned as a flood retention basin to protect the towns of Rietberg and Rheda-Wiedenbrück from flooding from the Ems River and was completed in 1972.
