The name Epema predates the existence of the state. Originally it was a farm with a family with the first name Epe or Epa. A house was probably built around 1640, the gatehouse already exists at that time. After the purchase, Duco Martena from Burma had a renovation carried out. The house was then inherited for generations by the Burmania, Rengers and Van Welderen Rengers families. Renovations and changes, particularly under the successive Van Welderen Rengers, result in the current appearance of the house. A 19th-century greenhouse book shows one by a garden architect Roodbaard.
