The former abbey or collegiate church was taken into use as a parish church in 1797, after which the old parish church was demolished. The largely Gothic collegiate church (with baroque furnishings) was restored and partly renovated at the end of the 19th century by the well-known architect Pierre Cuypers. After the Second World War, the church had to be restored again, after it was badly damaged in 1944. In the westwork of the church there are still a number of rooms that were once only accessible to members of the chapter, such as the ladies' choir, the chapter house and the archive room.
