The first stone of this small bridge, located in the 4th arrondissement of the capital, was laid by King Louis XIII in 1604. In the 17th century, some fifty houses were built on it, which were eventually destroyed. The Marie bridge, inscribed on the list of historical monuments in 1887, connects the Marais district, at the level of the Sens mansion, a splendid 15th-century building, to the Saint-Louis island with its many restaurants and the famous artisan ice-cream parlour.
