The church was built between 1867 and 1869 according to plans by Arnold Güldenpfennig in neo-Gothic style. On August 16, 1867, during a confirmation visit, Bishop Konrad Martin laid the foundation stone for the church, which was completed by late autumn 1868. The consecration of the church did not take place until June 2, 1872, as did the laying of the foundation stone again in the course of a confirmation by Bishop Konrad Martin.
