Braderup Heath and White Dune on Sylt

The Braderuper Heide extends along the east coast of the island of Sylt between Kampen and Braderup. It is a nature reserve and consists of the dune landscape with up to 15 meters high white cliffs in the south and the upstream salt marshes in the north and the beach areas in the transition zone to the Wadden Sea under protection. The dune area is occupied by heathland, especially broom heath, bell heather and crowberry, which have arisen after the clearing of earlier here halting forests. Grazing by migratory herds and other protective measures (mowing, stripping and burning) ensure that the heather plants do not over age, die off and other plants take their place.Natural history walks and information about fauna and flora can be found at:Natural history walk through the Braderuper Heide
