The largest town in Vesthimmerland, Aars is well known for its attractive town centre dotted with monuments and artworks by the renowned artist Per Kirkeby. Founded as a market town in the 19th century on the fertile lands of the Himmerland region, it also has a prehistoric claim to fame: the discovery of the "Aars Skull," a prehistoric human skull that shed light on early populations in the area.
