Unique nature reserve and protected habitat - one of the oldest in Germany! From the short way back to the fourth stage of the SteverLandRoute, which leads along the road through the middle of the heathland, you always have beautiful views of the heathland. If you want to visit the heath, you should park your bike at the hiking car park and explore the protected area on foot. The SteverLandRoute is the family bike path in the Münsterland: Here, information boards for adults and information boards especially for children (!) provide information about the great project. There are a total of 14 hands-on stations along the route. If you like, you can use the children's discovery card to travel from station to station, collect coin impressions and become a Stever expert. Have a look at our collection :)

The Westruper Heide in Haltern am See is one of the largest and most beautiful heathlands in North Rhine-Westphalia. This natural jewel lies on the edge of the Ruhr area and offers an impressive backdrop, especially during the flowering period of the heather plants in late summer, when the landscape shines in a sea of violet. The heath is not only an aesthetic highlight, but also an important protected area for rare plant and animal species. Particularly characteristic of the Westruper Heide are the rolling hills and the sometimes deep depressions that create a unique topography. Numerous hiking trails crisscross the area, with some themed trails offering interesting information about the flora and fauna as well as the formation of the heath landscape. The Westruper Heide is a paradise for nature lovers and hikers. The trails are well marked and lead through the different zones of the heath, which range from open sandy areas to more densely vegetated areas. Cycling is not permitted in the Westruper Heide itself in order to protect the sensitive nature, but there are numerous cycling routes in the area that lead past the heath and are ideal for a day trip. The heath is also a popular place for nature photographers and those seeking peace and quiet who want to enjoy the silence and vastness of this unique landscape. Thanks to the low level of light pollution, the Westruper Heide is also an excellent place to observe the starry sky at night.Due to its proximity to the Halterner reservoir and the wide range of leisure activities in the area, the Westruper Heide is an ideal destination for nature lovers, hikers and families who want to spend a relaxing day in nature.

Park your bikes at the (car) parking lot and take the path opposite (on foot!)
After just a few meters you will reach several benches and have a great view of the heath.
If you want to see more of the heath, a hike is a better option.
