Located in the heart of the old town, directly on the market square, St. Nicholas Church dominates Plön's cityscape. The massive brick building with its 60-meter-high tower replaced a previous Baroque church that had burned down after a lightning strike between 1866 and 1868. In keeping with the taste of the time, the architecture was inspired by medieval Romanesque and Gothic style elements, incorporating remnants of the foundation walls that survived the fire. Many concerts take place in St. Nicholas Church, from sacred music to guest appearances by Vicky Leandros. Musical highlights include the concerts as part of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival.

St. Nicholas Church in Plön, located in Holstein Switzerland in Schleswig-Holstein, is the town's main Evangelical Lutheran church.
