Occupied by German troops from the end of August 1914, Vendegies-au-Bois remained far from the fighting until October 23, 1918 when the village was the scene of violent clashes between British and German troops. The cemetery was established on this date to bury the British casualties, most of whom fell on October 23, 1918.
The cemetery contains the graves of 43 British soldiers.
