In Holzgerlingen, owls and crabs (ravens) are symbolic of the town and its inhabitants. In Holzgerlingen, owls and ravens are both the heraldic animals of the town and part of an art campaign that was launched to celebrate the 1000th anniversary in 2007. These larger-than-life sculptures can be found throughout the town and have been individually designed by various artists, groups, and schools. A forest educational trail called "Holzweg" is also accompanied by the raven figure "Fritz" and the owl "Emma".
