Steinfeld is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Main-Spessart. The municipality is a member of the administrative community of Lohr am Main. The districts of Hausen and Waldzell belong to the municipality. A Lower East Franconian dialect is spoken. The locals in the area are often referred to by the nickname Steefld'r Russe. As burial mounds on the KohlplatteWelt-Icon show, the municipality was already settled in the Bronze Age. Steinfeld was first mentioned in documents in 812; in documents from that time it is referred to as Steinvelt im Waldsassengove (i.e. Waldsassengau). During the time of the tribal duchies, the place was in the Duchy of Franconia. By 1200, Steinfeld was already an independent parish; the Benedictine abbey of Neustadt am Main laid claim to the tithes. By 1336, the parish church was integrated into the Nuwenstat (Neustadt) monastery. In 1614, the new parish church of the Assumption of Mary was completed by Prince-Bishop Julius Echter. Clear evidence of this is, among other things, the construction plaque on the south side of the nave and the tower in the typical Echter style. In 1842, the nave was extended. As part of the Bishopric of Würzburg (district of Rothenfels), Steinfeld came to the Counts of Löwenstein-Wertheim in the Imperial Deputation Act of 1803. Both belonged to the Franconian Imperial Circle from 1500. In 1806, it became a Baden mediatory office, which was ceded to Austria in 1819, which left it to Bavaria. The current municipality was created there according to the municipal edict of 1818.Source: Wikipedia
