The place itself is quite simple, but in combination with the neighboring America it is nice to visit three countries in a short time.

There are three different versions of how the name came about. The first: a poor peasant known for his rough behavior was called "Old Russian". The second: the land in the district was considered uneconomical. The third: more than 150 years ago, a charcoal burner, also called Rußer, worked in his charcoal burner's hut.

Russia and America
We know the following about the origins of Friedeburg's "Russia" from old writings and oral tradition: More than 100 years ago, a poor farmer lived in the area of the current district of Russia, who was called "Russian" because of his way of life and his rough demeanor. Another story says that the soil in the district was particularly poor and difficult to cultivate. Heathland alternated with some moor and impenetrable bushes. The land resembled the barren and impassable regions of Russia.
