The Weissenau ruins are the largest and best preserved castle ruins in the Bernese Oberland. It was once built as an imperial castle to control the movement of goods across the Alpine passes. In the 14th century the castle was sold to the Interlaken monastery. Around 200 years later, the monastery was secularized and, along with the castle, became the property of the State of Bern. He had no use from the castle and let it fall into disrepair. It was not until the 1980s that the ruin was placed under a preservation order and accordingly preserved in its former condition. A stroll through the impressive ruin only gives an idea of the size of the former building.

The Weissenau ruins are the ruins of a medieval lowland castle in the municipality of Unterseen in the canton of Bern from the 13th century.
From the castle tower you have a wonderful view over Lake Thun and the Niesen.

The ruin itself is not breathtaking, but the surroundings already.
