    The present brick temple was built in the years 1789-1790 and funded by the Saxon-Cieszyn prince and the Polish prince at the same time, Albert Kazimierz (the fourth son of the Polish king August III of Saxony) and his wife, Archduchess Maria Krystyna (beloved daughter of Emperor Francis I and Empress Maria Teresa ). It was consecrated on December 5, 1790 by the bishop's commissioner and dean of Cieszyn, priest Alojzy Lohn.

    In 1945, the church was seriously damaged during the bombing and shelling of the city by the Soviet army and the retreating German army. Thanks to the efforts of the then administrator of the parish, Father Bernard Barysz, it was rebuilt relatively quickly.
