Built according to the plans of the engineer Jacques Tarade and the only important remnant of the old fortress built by Vauban in 1679-1680, it has 2 particular characters: it is a military building and introduces new forms of the time in Alsace. The facades, the bell tower and the roof have been part of the monument register since 1938.
