Seen from Hörschel, shelters very close together (perhaps every 2 km) are a shelter. there are different types: the luxury version with large benches, a large table and a window, small Finnish huts with narrow boards and a kind of large shelter with seating. They all have one thing in common, they are usually very well-groomed. In the last third of the Rennsteig (towards Blankenstein) the frequency of the huts is significantly reduced.

The beautiful rest areas on the Rennsteig are great. They are also not rotten or damaged. Very nicely laid out and maintained. It's actually worth stopping at each one as each one has a story or a great vantage point. Or maybe it also provides protection from the weather.

Currently (Jun24) there is a construction site at the Steinheider Hütte. But you can walk past. Towards Limbach follow 500m of the natural Rennsteig (S2), towards Neuhaus/Rwg it is better to take the hiking trail (10% gradient, S1+). In the area towards Neuhaus there is extensive forestry work going on. At the Rollkopf you can turn back onto the 6-Kuppen-Steig, which is the Rennsteig cycle path here.
