The Serrig barrage is Germany's largest river barrage on a natural river course. It is located near the municipality of Serrig at river kilometer 18.3 of the Saar between the barrages Kanzem and Mettlach.It is one of several barrages that were built in the course of making the Saar navigable on the route from Saarbrücken to Konz. A total of 55 meters in altitude are overcome.The Serrig barrage was built between 1981 and 1986 and has a lifting height of 14.5 m. The underwater is at 142.00 m above sea level and the storage target is at 156.50 m above sea level.The barrage has two lock chambers, the larger of which is 190 m long and 12.07 m wide. The smaller one is 40 m long and 6.70 m wide. The average rate of climb is 1.40 m per minute, resulting in a filling time of around 10.2 minutes.A hydroelectric power station is part of the barrage.
