    It is a beautiful memorial.

When cycling, extreme caution is required on the last few meters from the Radon down to the Fliegermemorial. Very steep, loose gravel. Possibly push.

If you are on the Wasserkuppe, be sure to take a short detour to the aviator's memorial; this is also part of a visit to the Wasserkuppe.

The aviator monument on the Wasserkuppe in the Rhön was erected in 1923 and commemorates the fighter pilots who died in World War I (1914-1918). It stands on the western slope of the Wasserkuppe above Abtsroda. It was built on a volcanic chimney, formerly known as a lark hill, later called "Loessl Steine". Carl Oskar Ursinus had designated this place for an annual commemoration, since Eugen von Loessl had started his last flight from here on August 9, 1920 during the first Rhön competition. On August 14, 1921, World War II pilot Wilhelm Leusch, the second person to die in gliding, died here as a result of a surface failure due to a faulty construction of his glider Welteggler.

A very nice destination with a fantastic view. There's always something to see and observe. Motorized aircraft, gliders, and much more. There's also a museum and a memorial to the aviation veterans.
