The Felsenmeer in Hemer, Sauerland, is a wooded geotope with a heavily rugged subsoil and numerous visible rock formations, which dates back to the Tertiary. The area of the Felsenmeer covers about 35 hectares, is about 600 meters long, 200 meters wide and is 45 meters above the valley floor. It is divided into three sub-areas, the Great Rocky Sea in the north-west, the Small Rocky Sea in the south and Paradise in the south-east.Felsenmeer Hemer in 2004Observation platform in the Great FelsenmeerBridge and footbridge in the small FelsenmeerNatural section between Kleiner Felsenmeer and paradise
The Felsenmeer was declared a nature reserve by the district government of Arnsberg in 1962 and 2004[1]. The eastern part of the nature reserve, which forms the core of the Felsenmeer, was registered as an archaeological monument by the city of Hemer in 2017.
