Rügen's western neighboring island of Ummanz has only one church:
The Protestant St. Mary's Church from 1322 in Waase.

This brick church was mentioned in 1322 as ecclesia Omanz and operated as an independent parish. In 1341 the church was placed under the control of the Holy Spirit Hospital in the Hanseatic city of Stralsund. The east wall of the nave, the sacristy, the choir and around 1500 the west wall of the nave date from the middle of the 15th century.

The valuable exhibits in this inconspicuous church include the Antwerp late Gothic carved altar from 1520, which was probably made for an English church but was then acquired by Stralsund merchants. The altar shows scenes from the life of Thomas Becket, Lord Chancellor of Henry II.

The late Gothic crutcifix in the Waase church dates from 1500. The Renaissance pulpit from 1572 most likely belonged to another church and was installed in the Waase church. Worth mentioning is the 15th century sacrament shrine on the east wall next to the Antwerp carved altar and the separate bell tower next to St. Mary's Church in Waase.

The only Protestant church in Ummanz dates back to the 14th century.
