The ship's cross was erected almost in the middle of the path between Aschach and Neuhaus as a memorial for the skippers and as a memorial to the dark fellows.

The "Half Mile"
At the sailors' cross, which is attached to a rock face halfway between Aschach and Neuhaus, the sailors passing by said their prayers for safe travel. A quarter of a mile from the High Court of the Lordship, it warned the rough fellows to order. The crucifixion group was founded in 1802 by shipmaster Johann Georg Fischer.

Shipmaster Johann Georg Fischer was surprised by a violent storm on the way to Aschach near this legendary rock and was rescued from obvious danger of death. He had acquired the group from the inventory of the abandoned Pupping monastery.
The monument was expanded in 1926, dedicated by the workers of the power construction management and the Aschach boatmen's guild on the occasion of the anniversary of the guild regulations issued in 1746.
