Tips
Located towards the middle of the famous climb of Poggio di Sanremo, the sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Guardia was built in the 17th century following a Marian apparition which occurred in 1667. Legend has it that the Virgin Mary appeared to the farmer Giovanni Peri, originally from the village of Poggio, intent on his agricultural work on a farm planted with olive and lemon trees. The Madonna asked the farmer to build a chapel on the site of the apparition and in a few years it was finished. Even today its white exteriors are easily recognizable and of great charm.
