The basilica in St. Johann, built by Stengel between 1754 and 1758, now shows the baroque beauty of the 18th century after extensive restoration. It received the "Basilica Minor" award from the Pope. The bronze portal and the entrance area, designed by the Saarbrücken artist Ernst Alt, are worth seeing. The organ is particularly worthy of mention.
It consists of three independent works, the main organ and the two choir organs.
They can be played individually or together.
The St. Johann basilica organ thus comprises 60 sounding registers with a total of
4312 pipes. Both in its organ design and in the variety of its timbres, it is an outstanding and versatile instrument - known far beyond the city of Saarbrücken and Saarland.saarbruecken.de/kultur/stadtgeschichte/stengelarchitektur/stengel_werke_in_saarbruecken/basilika_st_johann
