Hiking Highlight
The model illustrates a building that has disappeared and which stood at this point on the Donnersbach well beyond the middle of the 20th century. The Trift is the transport of floating wood. The wood was thrown into the river and brought back on land at the Trift Rake. Drifting was mainly used during floods in spring when the snow melted. The last drift took place in 1961. In 1962 the rake was removed. The "Trift" was a dangerous job; once the rake broke, the whole valley was flooded.
