During the production of explosives in the Tanne factory during World War II, around 1500m³ of highly toxic waste water was produced every day. This waste water was channeled past Buntenbock and Heiligenstock via cascades into the Bremketal. First they flowed directly in the Bremke to the Söse, Rhume, Leine, Aller and Weser in the North Sea. The fish stocks of these rivers were completely destroyed almost as far as the North Sea.
