Evangelical Church, Flims
The Church of St. Martin in Flims at the entrance to Surselva
The village church was first mentioned in a document in 831 as belonging to the Pfäfers monastery. Its name goes back to the national saint of the Franks, St. Martin.
The church building shows different ages. The lower part of the tower dates back to the Romanesque period. The nave and chancel are dated 1512; they are based on even older building fabric. The belfry was built in 1704 in two stages. The filigree onion dome was added in 1868 in parallel with an interior renovation. In 2016, the belfry in the tower, which, like the cemetery, unlike the church, belongs to the political community, was renovated.
