From 1700 to 1710, Minheim was afflicted by the scourge of the plague and was badly hit. The faithful took refuge in prayer and asked the plague saints Sebastian and Rochus as well as the Mother of God and Jesus for help. Out of gratitude that they were spared the disease, the surviving citizens of Minheim built a plague chapel in the years 1710 - 1718 at the town exit in the direction of Chiusa. This chapel was demolished in 1966 when the county road was widened.

In 1989, today's plague chapel was built by the municipality of Minheim as a visible sign of thanks to the ancestors "auf der Lay". The cross inside consists of 2 parts limestone (early 17th century), Wittlich sandstone (2nd half, 18th century) and a cast iron cross (2nd half, 19th century).
