The history of the castle and its decline: a crime story, a story in this case neglect through private property! About the history (excerpt): The purchaser of Karżniczka, Georg Lorenz von Puttkamer, received a fiefdom for his descendants by decree of May 15, 1686 and thus founded a new branch of the Puttkamers - Karżnica. Since then, Karżniczka has belonged to the Puttkamer family for 259 years. The castle in Karżniczka was built in the 19th century as a moated castle on an island surrounded by a moat. The main part of the palace was built in 1800-1882. The side wings were added a few years later. In the north-eastern part, in the corner, there is an octagonal lookout tower with a clock. The palace was built of bricks on a high stone base as a two-storey building. In the 1990s, the Damnica Municipality became the owner of the palace. Then she sold it into private hands. The property was passed from one owner to another. Each of the successive owners stole the interior of the palace: antique furniture, chandeliers and paneling and decorated cast-iron radiators, which were scrapped, disappeared! Ultimately, the company Nex-Bud from Orla becomes the owner. This brings new hopes for the building's restoration and restoration to its former glory. Even restoration work begins.
In the night from November 3rd to 4th, 2009 the castle burned down completely. At first the owner thought it was an unfortunate accident. He wrote a request to the Minister of Culture to remove the palace from the register of monuments. The minister did not agree with this.
In 2010, the District Prosecutor's Office in Słupsk accused Bogdan Ch of setting fire to the historic palace in Karżniczka. It was an employee of the Nex-Bud company who acted as the building's caretaker. After some time he pleaded guilty. He voluntarily submitted to the punishment. He received a prison sentence of one and a half years, suspended for four years, and a fine of one thousand zlotys and twenty thousand zlotys to be paid for monument protection.
In 2012 there was another fire. This time the bell tower suffered. Since the owner avoided putting the area in order, the residents of Karżniczka did it themselves. Damnica Municipality authorities had a problem finding the address of the then owner. When a letter was successfully sent asking for the site to be cleaned, there was no response. Source DIPP info
