The Castle of the Warmian Chapter in Pieniężno - is located on a hill above Wałsza, at Rynek Street. The main house from the west and a ruined economic wing from the north have been preserved.

In 1282, the Prussian town of Mehlsack was replaced. In 1288, the Warmia cathedral chapter came into possession of the vicinity of Pieniężno. The castle was built by the bishops of Warmia in the first half of the 14th century in the Gothic style, on a plan similar to a trapezoid. It consisted of the main residential wing erected from the west, the utility wing and a walled courtyard.

In the first phase of construction, the main walls of the castle wing, which still exists today, were built, but without internal divisions (the reconstruction of the original division of the interior is prevented by the transformations that took place in the 15th century and in the early modern era). In its initial form, the wing was also one storey lower than it is today. On the eastern side of the castle house, a trapezoidal courtyard was marked out and a gate was erected, just like in Braniewo, leading straight to the city.

In 1414, during the Hunger War between the Kingdom of Poland and the Teutonic Order, the castle was burnt down. In the mid-fifteenth century, a thorough expansion began, as a result of which four wings were added. The castle did not have a main tower. The next destruction took place in 1455 during the Thirteen Years' War, when the castle was captured by the Teutonic Knights and then recaptured by Poles, who captured 60 Teutonic Knights. From 1466, Pieniężno belonged to Poland and was part of the Warmian bishopric. After the reconstruction, from October 1518 to March 1519, Nicolaus Copernicus lived in the castle, who left it to inspect the surrounding villages belonging to the Warmian chapter. During the war with Poland, the castle was conquered in March 1520 by troops of the Teutonic Order, despite the fierce defense of the Polish crew led by Jan Kostelak and Wawrzyniec Bieniaszewski. In the years 1589-1599 the administrator of the castle was the prince of Transylvania, Andrzej Batory, nephew of the Polish king Stefan Batory.
