Eschviller is located in the German-French border area. Immediately to the north is the border with the German federal states of Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate. The next larger town, Bitche, is about 10 kilometers southeast of Eschviller.
Eschviller is part of the Bitscher Land and the Northern Vosges Regional Nature Park.
Eschviller was first mentioned in 1271 under the name Eckeswilre or Ecksiwilre. From 1790 to 1813, Eschviller was an independent municipality. From 1790, the hamlet belonged to the now defunct canton of Volmunster and since 2015 to the canton of Bitche.
