This beautiful but remote and rarely visited cemetery was designed by W.C. Von Berg. The cemetery was established by the 19th Division Burial Officer in June 1917 and remained in use until November 1917.
Croonnaert Chapel field chapel in a hamlet on the road from Voormezele to Wijtschate. It was located in no man's land during the Battle of Messines (June 1917). There were 51 German graves at this location. They were dug up and transferred to a German collective cemetery. Croonaert Chapel Cemetery is the resting place of 68 British soldiers. A stone's throw from here you can visit the Bayerwald. This is a restored German trench system that keeps the memory of the First World War alive.
