The little Erdholländer was built in this place by Onno Tjaden in 1922, after it was previously used as a water mill in Westrhauderfehn.
However, Müller Tjaden was not very lucky with his mill, as an accident occurred shortly after construction and he was disabled forever. After the Second World War, Hermann Tjaden, the son of a cousin, took over the mill. He renovated it and the mill remained in operation until his death in 1975.

The slow decline was already apparent, but was averted by purchase by the municipality in 1976. In the same year, the mill builder Mönck was commissioned with the renovation. The completion took place in 1982.
