Ridin already had a church in the Middle Ages, which became a subsidiary of the Sanzkow church after the Reformation was introduced in Pomerania. An earlier building was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War. A new building built after 1669, which was located in the middle of the village, was classified during an inspection in 1820 as in danger of collapsing and no longer repairable.

It was not until 1866 that the Ridiner landowner von Maltzahn began preparing for a new building. There were delays due to the resistance of the former church patron who lived in Sanzkow, the manor owner Hecht. After the design of the Demmin building inspector had been approved, construction began in 1872 opposite the old chapel. The consecration of the church took place on August 2, 1874.
