The area around Wackersdorf has been shaped by mining for decades. By 1982, huge bucket wheel excavators had extracted around 185 million tons of brown coal in the region. Today the region is a leisure spot and economic engine, but various facilities, display boards and exhibits remind us of the mining era of the past.
