Even today, the pirate Störtebeker is glorified as the "Robin Hood" of the poor. The legend persists that the Vital Brother supported the poor and needy with part of his booty. It is also unclear where Störtebeker came from, when he was born and how he got his name, which translated from Low German means "drop the cup". A mention in documents of the city of Wismar suggests that Störtebeker could come from the Hanseatic city on the Mecklenburg Bay.

Störtebeker Marienhafen
Anyone who takes a look around the East Frisian town of Marienhafe will certainly notice that this East Frisian spot is very idyllic and attractive on the one hand, and on the other hand the close connection between Marienhafe and the pirate "Klaus Störtebeker" will certainly not remain hidden .
So you can find the name "Störtebeker" on almost every corner, especially in the center of Marienhafe, because there is, for example, a swimming pool that bears the pirate name, numerous restaurants and even a retirement home shows its connection to the pirate, since this is the Designation: "Liekedeeler", leads. The highlight of the "Störtebeker worship" in Marienhafe can be found directly on the market square, because there the pirate was even erected a monument, which you can also see in the picture (below).

Störtebeker: A monument was set up for him in Marienhafe
There is also a reason why the Störtebeker monument can be found directly on the market square in Marienhafe, because the pirate and "Liekedeel leader" spent some time there towards the end of the 14th century. The pirate of his time found shelter from his pursuers in the tower of the "St. Marien Kirche", which is also located in Marienhafe on the market square. You can see the striking church tower, which is otherwise known as the "Störtebekerturm", in the following picture.
