Interesting development of the dykes over the years...

The state protection dike Alter Koog on Nordstrand was strengthened over a stretch of around 2.5 kilometers between Norderhafen and Strucklahnungshörn. Not only was it raised by 90 cm to 8.70 meters above sea level, it was also the first dyke in Schleswig-Holstein to receive the new climate profile (see model on the dyke).
This profile has additional building reserves. The outer embankment is flatter and the crest of the dyke has been widened from 2.50 meters to 5.00 meters. In this way, future generations can build the dyke in the short term, without great effort and at low cost
"Cap" if the sea level rises more than previously forecast.
The existing dike was last strengthened in 1965. It protects 612 hectares of lowland area with around 370 inhabitants and property worth around 55 million euros.
