Hike through the ancient woodlands of Nature Reserve Bosco della Mesola, a distinctive experience within the Po Delta Park. This easy trail, spanning 4.3 miles (6.9 km) with a minimal 73 feet (22 metres) of elevation gain, takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete. You'll traverse a unique blend of lowland forests, remnants of coastal dune belts, and marsh vegetation, offering a tranquil escape. Explore diverse environments from holm oak forests to wetlands, where you can spot flora like juniper and sea buckthorn. The surreal, ancient feel of the woodlands makes for a truly immersive journey.

The hiking trails within Bosco della Mesola are generally easy and suitable for all skill levels, with paths that are typically very accessible. Many routes are circular, ranging from 2 to 6 kilometers, perfect for a gentle exploration. Be aware that dogs are generally not allowed in the reserve due to the risk of parasitic insects carried by the deer. There is typically a small entrance fee to access the publicly available areas.

What makes this reserve truly special is its exceptional biodiversity and historical significance as one of the last and best-preserved lowland forests. It is famously home to the rare Mesola Italian Red Deer, a unique and protected subspecies. Beyond deer, the forest teems with other wildlife, including foxes, badgers, and a variety of birds like woodpeckers and birds of prey. An area known as Elciola has been specifically developed to support herons, night herons, ducks, and waders.
