This memorial to the fallen – a sign indicates that it is not the official War Memorial – takes us back in history even further than the two terrible world wars that claimed so many lives in the first half of the 20th century. This "War Memorial" commemorates the victims of the Second Anglo-Boer War at the very beginning of the century (1899 to 1902), in which the British Empire subjugated the "Boer Republic of the Orange Free State" and the "South African Republic (Transvaal)."
