Festivals were once celebrated in the three-winged tea house with its slab-covered terrace and on the meadows of the Rosenau, at which often “the entire population of the surrounding villages were guests of the ducal house”. On the occasion of Ernst I's marriage to Dorothea Luise, a large tournament was held to the delight of townsfolk and farmers, at which the invited guests of the nobility, dressed in medieval armor and robes, acted as the main actors. To commemorate this extraordinary event, a "Tournament Column", a rectangular pillar with four coats of arms and a small sundial, was erected on a hill near the swan pond.
