In 1871, the Austrian Southern Railway Company opened its line through the Puster Valley. The "Hotel Toblach" was built in 1877 and 1878 on the south side of the Toblach train station. The building took on its final form as a luxury hotel after various extensions, expansions and modernizations in 1903. After extensive renovation, the complex has served as a local and regional cultural center since 1999. A youth hostel has also been located in the premises for several years.
