Alleys Paul Riquet

Symbol of Biterroise identity, historical axis of the city since 1827 linking the Theater and the Plateau des Poètes and bordered by the recently renovated Place Jean-Jaurès, the Allées Paul Riquet constitute the living heart of Béziers. A privileged artery for leisure, celebration and commerce, it is often compared to the Ramblas of Barcelona. They host major festive events throughout the year and every Friday a lovely flower market.
In the middle of this 650m long promenade stands the bronze statue of the designer of the Canal du Midi, Pierre-Paul Riquet, erected thanks to a public subscription on the initiative of the Archaeological Society of Béziers, and made by the sculptor David of Angers in 1838.
