Tips

Despite the occasional rumble of nearby trains heading to and from London and Oxford, South Stoke is a glorious little village on the River Thames.

It looks every bit the quintessential English village, with a pretty Norman church, a 17th-century flagstone inn and a mixture of thatched cottages and timbered houses.

It is within the Chiltern Hills AONB and there are many excellent walks in the surrounding area. The Ridgeway National Trail and the Swan's Way both pass through the village.
