Church in Au am Rhein. Absolutely beautiful.

    Translated by Google •

The Catholic parish of St. Andreas Au am Rhein, together with the parishes of St. Dionysius/Herz Jesu and St. Bernhard in Durmersheim, belong to the Catholic pastoral unit of Durmersheim-Au am Rhein in the deanery of Rastatt. The parish has around 2,100 Catholics (as of January 2017). The focal point is the parish church of St. Andreas, whose origins date back to the 12th century. Several redesigns and conversions led to the current form. The design of the windows, the ceiling and the choir room by the artist Emil Wachter (+2012) from the neighboring town of Neuburgweier is remarkable.

Today's church building was shaped by Weinbrenner and Emil Wachter. Worth seeing!

"As early as the 9th century, a settlement was mentioned in documents in Au am Rhein.
The first written record of a church dates back to 1388.
From 1838-1843 the old church building was demolished and a new church building was erected according to the designs of Johann Ludwig Weinbrenner. This church was badly damaged by artillery fire during World War II.
The church was expanded from 1959-1961, renovated again and again in the years that followed and enriched with stained glass windows by Emil Wachter.
From 1995-1996 the church underwent another thorough renovation, the painting by Prof. Emil Wachter and, in coordination with him, the design of the altar, ambo, tabernacle and Marian stele by the sculptor Christoph Lehr set new creative and liturgical accents."
