The church was officially dedicated on August 6, 1843.The new and current baptismal font was put into operation during the commemoration in 1943.As early as 1436 there was a chapel or branch church of Heerde in Veessen dedicated to St. Ewoldus. Remarkably, in the 15th century this chapel is mentioned several times as a location in the church "Vorachten".A pen drawing by Cornelis Pronk from 1735 of the old church still exists. In 1842, due to dilapidation and lack of space, this church was replaced by the current church building, which was built on a different site.
