The place, probably in the 6./7. Founded in the 19th century by the Bavarians, it was first mentioned in the 11th century when Bishop Gundekar II of Eichstätt consecrated a church in "Meningen".[4] Local nobles are documented from 1142 to 1519.[5] Before 1286, the imperial ministerial Ulrich von Sulzbürg gave a farm to Möning from a former imperial estate to the Seligenporten monastery.[6] In 1286 he sold all his goods to "Menig" including the village court to the German Order coming from Nuremberg.[7] Gottfried von Heydeck also sold the Meierhof von Möning to the Nuremberg Command.[8] In 1291, the brothers Hilpolt and Heinrich von Stein, who lived in Niedersulzbürg Castle, sold the castle and fiefdom of Möning to the Seligenporten Monastery, goods that they had received from the Sulzburghers through marriage.[9] In 1295 an estate in Möning went from Hilpolt von Stein to the Seligenporten sisters.[10] The Wolfsteiners, successors of the Lords of Stein, counted only an eighth of Möning's farms in their Sulzbürg dominion, but 44 farms of different sizes in their Pyrbaum dominion.[11] According to a property description from 1670, the minister of the German order at Postbauer owned 15 properties in Möning
