According to Lübeck law, Köslin became famous in 1317. The first mention of the city walls dates back to 1400 - they were probably built in the 14th and 15th centuries - a moat. Surrounded by earthen and wooden fortifications and brick walls, it was accessible through the Koszalin Gate from the south, the Słupska Gate from the north and the Łąkowa Gate (Paddock Gate) from the east, and through the Polna Gate from the west. Two gates that have survived to this day.
